This year started with two hikes. The first was at Indiana Dunes State Park as part of their annual 3-Dunes New Years Hike. The challenge is somewhat mitigated by the cold temperatures which freeze the ground and make the climb up the sand dunes much easier. Even the weather was pleasant for the time of year.

Gabis Arboretum held a guided hike today. A master naturalist took us on a 2.5-mile walk. Despite the muddy conditions in spots, it was an easy walk with friendly, engaging people. Taking pictures had me often lagging at the back of the line so I may go again for their February hike so I can hear more about the park.
